2 Ingredient Whipped Chocolate Frosting (Vegan)

This super easy, 2 ingredient whipped chocolate frosting recipe is one of our favourite vegan frostings. It's also the perfect topping for Halo & Swoon's plant-based, gluten-free chocolate cake or cupcakes!

This magical two ingredient, vegan chocolate frosting recipe is as simple as it sounds. All you need is some good quality (preferably dark), dairy-free chocolate, and an equal amount of coconut milk or cream.

Even though this frosting recipe only contains two ingredients, the simple method turns them into a deliciously smooth, creamy frosting. No one would ever guess this frosting is completely dairy-free and vegan!

This recipe makes enough chocolate frosting for one generously iced Halo & Swoon organic Chocolate Cake, or a batch of twelve chocolate cupcakes.

2 Ingredient Whipped Chocolate Frosting (Vegan)

Makes enough frosting for: 1 cake or 12 cupcakes
Prep time: 20 minutes

200g good quality, dairy-free dark chocolate

200ml coconut milk or cream (either from a can or we love Little Island coconut milk)

Bake your Halo & Swoon Chocolate Cake or cupcakes according to the instructions on the packet. Allow to cool fully before applying this frosting.

To make the frosting:

Break the chocolate into pieces and place in a heat proof bowl.

Heat the milk or cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming.

Pour the steaming milk/cream over the chocolate and leave the chocolate to soften for a couple of minutes.

Use a hand whisk to stir the mixture until it comes together into a smooth chocolate liquid.

At this stage you can either leave it to stand at room temperature, whisking occasionally until the mixture thickens.

Or speed up the process by placing the bowl into the fridge or in an ice bath. To make an ice bath, fill a larger bowl with a handful of ice cubes and a little cold water, then sit your bowl on top.

Continue to whisk your frosting with a hand whisk, or swap to an electric whisk to make it faster. As the frosting cools it will thicken up, which will happen in under 5 minutes if you're using an ice bath.

If you find the frosting suddenly sets and is difficult to spread, simply place your bowl of frosting over a pan of steaming water. When the frosting starts to melt slightly, remove it from the heat and use a whisk to bring it together into a smooth frosting again.

Spread your whipped chocolate frosting over your cake or cupcakes, and decorate as desired.

Serve your frosted cake or cupcakes immediately, or chill in a sealed container in the fridge until required.

Chocolate frosting will keep up to 5 days in the fridge.
